Accordion Brass Teacher (part time)

Giggleswick is seeking to appoint an outstanding Brass Teacher to teach individual pupils from beginner level to grade 8 and potentially beyond. The successful candidate would be expected to prepare pupils for examinations and performances both within and outside school as appropriate. The Brass Teacher will work with the Head of Instrumental Music and the Junior School Music to develop Brass throughout the school.
The post would suit a graduate with an instrumental teaching qualification. Enthusiasm and experience of working with younger pupils would be an advantage.
Nearly half of the Senior School and 90% of Junior School pupils are taught musical instruments, and nearly half take part in one or more of the musical ensembles. 
Key responsibilities will include:
  • Teaching Brass to pupils ranging from beginner level to post grade 8, ability to teach all brass instruments is essential (including French horn and Tuba)
  • preparing pupils for examinations and performances as appropriate
  • by helping the pupils to learn their parts for any potential performances
  • developing Brass throughout the school
  • report writing
  • supporting the work of the music department in general
  • potentially performing in school concerts throughout the year
  • the ability to play the piano is preferable
The successful candidate will have the following suitable qualifications, skills, experience and attributes
  • proven ability as a practical musician;
  • a degree from a university or Music college or recognised teaching qualification such as CTABRSM
  • genuine interest in teaching;
  • teaching experience with a proven track record in achieving examination success.
  • ability to communicate effectively with children and young people;
  • being capable of working effectively as part of a team and able to take initiative;
  • have plenty of energy, enthusiasm and a good sense of humour.
  • have strong organisational and IT skills
  • Be able to commit to weekly lessons; Instrumental lessons (20 – 30 mins each) are scheduled according to the school timetable and a weekly rota is published.  Lessons commence at 8.40 and end at 16.15.  There are likely to be approximately 10 lessons per week scheduled by mutual agreement with the Head of Instrumental Music.

Accordion House Matron
Part Time: 16 Hours per week
Working as part of the House team you will play an integral role in ensuring we deliver an outstanding level of pastoral care and supervision to our boarders.
This role involves overseeing the day to day tidiness and upkeep of the House, some assistance with hospitality for parents & pupils and providing some administrative support for the Housemaster/Housemistress.  
However, the key focus of this role is the pastoral care you will provide to our boarders.
You will;
  • have experience of working with young people in this age group
  • be warm, caring and nurturing
  • have outstanding interactive skills with young people and their families alike
  • you will have a passion for supporting young people, ensuring that they are happy, feel secure and are motivated; supervising them whilst developing and promoting their independence 
  • you will be an excellent listener 
  • have a flexible, can-do approach, as well as being highly organised with sound administration skills
