Environment and Charity

At the Junior School we support a number of charities, at local, national and international level. Fundraising events are often planned and organised via our School Council, such as themed fancy-dress days or cake stalls. The school also supports national fundraising events such as Children in Need, Sports Relief and Macmillan Coffee Morning. We are developing links with a global partner school, and supporting the charity ‘Music for Kenya’.

The school's Eco Committee involves pupils from Year 1 to 6. Recent initiatives have included organising a Fair Trade breakfast and Fair Trade workshop with other schools, and the school has received both Fair Aware and Fair Active status. The school is developing it’s own vegetable and fruit garden, funding an outdoor learning area next to the school. We even have our own chickens and collect their eggs!

At Giggleswick using both the inside and outside environment is important to us. Environmental issues are highlighted to pupils in Y1 and 2 as both part of their Outdoor Education (‘Out and About’) sessions and for Early Years as part of our Forest Sessions initiative where our purpose built area is used to full advantage. We have our own wildlife area and pond in our Ghyll Field which are also important components of the outdoor education at Giggleswick, and also support our Science curriculum.
