New Boarding Facilities

We are delighted to see the start of a multi-million pound investment in our boarding houses and classroom facilities with the first stage of development completed in September 2018.

The redevelopment project includes an overhaul of the boarding houses to create the latest in modern, architecturally designed, home from home accommodation for our pupils. The project aims to bring a new leading-edge model of family friendly boarding to Giggleswick with open plan living, kitchen, social and study areas and brand new single and double accommodation.

Work started during the 2018 summer holidays with the refurbishment of Nowell House, one of our seven boarding houses, which was completed and ready for the start of the new term in September. The programme will continue to roll through other boarding houses in subsequent years. Each house will be transformed with new light, modern living spaces on the inside whilst retaining the architectural heritage of the building externally.

Boarding is central to life and learning at Giggleswick and our new facilities are a statement of the ambition for the school. Boarding must adapt to modern demands and we have reviewed our provision to ensure the highest standards of facilities that provides the best family-friendly experience for the children. It is an exciting time and what these developments show is what sets Giggleswick apart - putting the needs and happiness of each child at the heart of what we do so that boarding, just like all learning, can be great fun.”

Catteral House, our home away from home for Year 7 and 8 pupils and junior boarders, has also enjoyed extensive refurbishment over the last year including a fabulous new open plan country kitchen creating a welcoming, relaxed social space for pupils, staff and parents.

A new purpose-built fitness centre was opened in September as a major extension to the school’s sports hall complex, which features the latest in weights, strength and conditioning training equipment as well as top-end treadmills, cycle trainers, rowing machines and other cardio-vascular training aids.

Also in the planning is a dedicated new build upper sixth form house, designed to provide bespoke facilities for more independent living and working, preparing each student for life beyond Giggleswick.
