Giggleswick school has its own Gritstone outcrop within the school grounds, an ideal venue for novice groups, training and abseiling. The infamous Giggleswick Scar South is only a 5 minute walk away, providing many challenging bolted routes on this excellent limestone crag. For the more talented, Malham Cove and Kilnsey Crag are both within half an hour. There are also a number of good gritstone outcrops within half an hour further east.
Giggleswick School is the perfect setting for your conference, event or residential course. Situated on the edge of the Yorkshire Dales National Park within 200 acres of stunning countryside, we have a range of facilities to suit every need. With classrooms of various sizes, sports halls, a theatre, swimming pool and gym, a dining hall to seat large groups, separate event spaces, a catering team and 300 beds across seven boarding houses, it’s no wonder we’ve hosted a huge range of groups from the National Youth Choir of Great Britain, to MENSA to the England Rugby Teams.
The school hosts a Kendal Winter league race plus has been the venue for The English Schools Fell Running Championship for the last two years. The compact and challenging course is starts and finishes at good indoor facilities. Longer routes can easily be made by extending the current course.
Food and Catering
Our catering team are able to provide breakfasts, lunches and dinners, from buffet style meals between seminars and workshops to three course silver service dinners.
Indoor Climbing Wall
The school had a state of the art indoor climbing wall installed in one of the sports hall last year providing challenging routes and an excellent venue for teaching the basic safety requirements of indoor climbing and for coaching movement skills. This is suitable for NICAS level 2.
Mountain Bike Track
The school has a purpose built 1.2 Km Mountain Bike Track in one of its undulating fields, The Ghyll Field. This has a number of technical elements and is ideal for practising skills and techniques in an environment close to facilities.
There is a bespoke orienteering course with markers sprea throughout the 240 acre site, supported by a 1:2,500 map. The undulating grounds with rocky outcrops, small plantations and linear boundaries are an ideal venue for teaching navigation in a safe environment, close to facilities.
We have 7 well-equipped and homely boarding houses. Each House has its own Common room, TV room and kitchen. There are single, double and dormitory rooms.
There is a 17m indoor heated swimming pool ideal for not only swimming but also kayak drill and fun games.
