All parents and guardians are automatically members of our Parents’ Association, which is here to provide a forum for communication and to organise social events for the Giggleswick community.
Throughout the school year, GSPA provide a calendar of events and opportunities for parents and families to get together, often in support of existing events at school in which our children are involved. As well as the Macmillan Coffee Morning, Christmas Fair, annual Cricket Match & BBQ, twice-weekly yoga and the Great Giggleswick Tea Party and Bake Off, you will find GSPA supporting school sporting events, concerts, plays and open days throughout the year.
There are also a number of Giggleswick Community events throughout the year to which we are all invited and welcomed along with staff, OGs, former parents and friends of the School. These have included dinners and drinks parties in Yorkshire, Lancashire, London, Newcastle, Spain, Germany, Hong Kong and Dubai. There are also occasional large events such as our bi-annual Sports Dinner, Ball and even the Giggleswick Dog Show. These are organised by the School but are supported by GSPA and, the Old Giggleswickian Club, which is led this year by Richard Warburton who is both a parent and an OG.
In the course of GSPA’s events, it raises funds for the School to provide items that could not ordinarily be expected to be financed through fees. It is small but important capital expenditure that serves to boost and enhance the facilities and experience the pupils gain at Giggleswick. GSPA also makes donations to local and national charities. Over the last four years GSPA has raised nearly £40,000 through subscriptions, drinks, raffles, food, commission, product sales and plenty of cake! This has purchased a multitude of items from benches and bean bags to climbing walls and computer equipment, as well helping many deserving charities
GSPA meets informally twice each term to discuss events, finance and ideas. Meetings are held in the wonderful new Catteral House kitchen and are open to everyone. Details can be found in the Red Book or on the App.
Parents and guardians at Giggleswick also have a closed Facebook Group, called ‘Giggleswick Parents’ Messageboard’, which provides a place for you to ask questions about anything to do with school life - from events to lost property, procedures to uniform requirements. Curent parents are enormously helpful in answering Giggleswick enigmas! The Messageboard is also a place you are welcome to post events, chat with other parents or post anything other parents might be interested in.
We are keen to grow our network and incorporate more ideas from our members. We do hope that you will join in and enjoy the many activities that we organise over the School year.
