Sixth Form

Our Sixth Form programme prepares our students for a complex and rapidly-changing world, reaching beyond the curriculum to give them the very best start after school. Our aim is to provide each young person with the knowledge, skills and strength of character they need to go on and fulfil their dreams, whatever their goals and wherever they choose to forge their careers.

BTEC

Did you know we offer a selection of BTEC courses for Sixth Form? BTECs tend to suit young people who prefer a more guided learning experience and ongoing assessment throughout the course. BTEC options continue to deliver excellent results for our students’ with this year 100% of our pupils achieving D*D or D*D* (A*/A or A*/A* equivalent) grade, gaining places at top universities including York and Newcastle.

EPQ or The Gold Arts Award

We encourage all our A level students to take an EPQ (Extended Project Qualification). An EPQ is an independent project that is completed by the student and allows them to research an area of interest away from their A level studies. This can be an area of personal or academic interest and may help them to research an area related to a future career.

Some students may prefer to take the Gold Arts Award rather than the EPQ. It is an arts-based qualification equivalent to a Level 3 qualification and is worth 16 UCAS points. Students will develop their own arts practice, leadership experience and understanding of the arts industry.

Co-curriculum

Just as important in developing your learning is a full and active engagement in the co-curriculum. We expect all our Sixth Form students to participate in active, creative and service enrichment programmes beyond the purely academic curriculum. From sports to music, drama and outdoor pursuits, to service in the local community, our pupils lives are full, enriching and fun.

Careers support

At Giggleswick we recognise that students today have an increasingly wide range of opportunities available to them after their time at school, and the Sixth Form should be all about helping them to prepare to make the most of these. We provide an extensive careers and higher education programme for our Sixth Form which aims to help each pupil find the right opportunity for their needs and abilities. This programme features lectures and tutorials from industry experts, visits to and from universities, work placements, as well as the chance to meet with Giggleswick alumni to hear, and ask questions, about their experiences in the world of work and study.
