During exeat, 8 pupils undertook winter skills training in Glenridding in the Lake District, in preparation for the Alps trip this summer.
They started by walking into Brown Cove at the back of Helvellyn before climbing the northwest ridge of a mountain called Catstye (890m). They then descended into Red Tarn and back to the minibus in Patterdale.
Head of Outdoor Pursuits, Dr Chris Wright, said “There was plenty of snow which was challenging but made for perfect preparation for our trip this summer. It provided pupils with the chance to practice using kit and to think about nutrition, hydration and keeping themselves warm. They were all very able and did well.”
