Year 6 spent the day at Quarry Bank Mill last week, learning about what life was like for Victorian children. We learnt that life was very hard for them, particularly the children that worked in a Mill as an apprentice. Home to the pauper children who worked in the mill in exchange for their labour, the Apprentice House is a recreated ‘home’, where our pupils experienced life in the past, from the strict lessons in the schoolroom to seeing the grisly medical treatments of the day! The food was horrible, children were much smaller than they are today and they worked in terrible conditions. We really enjoyed our day and learnt so much.
