Music - lessons, composing, performing

Music is an integral part of the curriculum in Years 7, 8 and 9, and is offered at GCSE and AS/A2 levels (Edexcel), where the three principal disciplines of Critical Listening, Composing and Performing form the core of our teaching.
academic_musicThere is great emphasis on an appreciation of all styles of music and yet there is scope to specialise where appropriate. Pupils are also encouraged to use the exciting and ever-expanding range of Music Technology facilities available to them and they have access to software such as Sibelius, Cubase and Reason.

Sixth Form Programme
We offer a diverse and interesting Enrichment programme which provides L6 and U6 students with the opportunity to take an additional AS level, learn a new skill or continue to develop their leadership skills through the Combined Cadet Force or the Outdoor Pursuits programme.  This programme runs on Friday afternoons.
In addition to CCF and Outdoor Pursuits, options are:

AS Textiles
AS Photography
AS Business Fast-Track
AS Religious Studies
Beginners' Spanish
Nutrition and Practical Cookery
Philosophy and Ethics

Students are encouraged to take the relevant examination at the end of the year, but this is not compulsory.

Students involved in School Drama Productions or who are taking AS/A2 Theatre Studies will use this period for rehearsal.

Students taking 5 AS levels or 4 or more A2 levels may use Friday afternoons for independent study.
