Houses

The House system is at the heart of Giggleswick life.  There are seven Houses: a Junior House for boys and girls in Years 7 and 8 (Catteral), four for boys in Years 9 - U6 (Morrison, Nowell, Paley and Shute), and two for girls in Years 9 - U6 (Carr and Style). Each House is home to between 48 and 60 boys or girls, some of whom are day pupils, and has its own identity and character, while sharing agreed rules and values.

housesA Housemaster or Housemistress, appointed by the Headmaster, supervises each House and is responsible for the academic and personal progress and general welfare of all the pupils in the House within a caring, disciplined framework. In addition, there is a live-in Tutor in each house, and another four teachers who act as House Tutors. Among the senior pupils are a Head of House and other House Seniors who will help the Senior House Staff in discharging the day-to-day duties involved in a boarding community.

Although the majority of senior pupils are boarders, day pupils are fully integrated into all Houses and are able to sleep over if necessary.
