Giggleswick School

Phil has worked at Giggleswick since 1997 in various roles, including Teacher of ICT and Design, CCF Contingent Commander, School Fire Officer and as a resident house tutor in Paley and Nowell respectively. He is currently Director of Information Systems and was appointed as Housemaster of Nowell in 2007. He has a background in Electronics Engineering, graduating in 1996 from Warwick University and then completed a PGCE at Manchester University. Phil has a keen interest in sailing, has taken several school trips to the Hebrides and sings in the Chapel Choir. He is also an Amateur Radio instructor and prepares groups of students for the Amateur Radio examinations.

Nowell is located in a commanding position at the heart of the school, overlooking The Flat. It is part of the main hostel block built in 1874 and was extensively refurbished in the 1990s. The house is named after John Nowell, vicar of Giggleswick from 1548 to 1558, who petitioned Edward VI to grant the school a charter in 1553. The house has an excellent reputation for academic achievement, music, drama and team spirit in sport.
