Eve and Jack Hutchinson represented Hyndburn Athletics Club in the Lancashire Athletic Association 2012 Cross Country Championships on Saturday 7 January.  It was a blustery day and the ground was wet and heavy going. The 2 km race draws competitors from all over Lancashire and The Isle of Man. The event took place at Witton Park in Blackburn.

Jack (Y4) was one of the younger competitors in the under 11 boys race and by finishing 13th overall and 2nd in his team he was rewarded with a silver medal along with his three team mates for their second place team result. Jack has two more seasons in the under 11 boys, so is hoping to move up the rankings in the coming years.

Just 15 minutes later Eve lined up with 40 other under 11 girls and teams from across the county and beyond.  An excellent start put Eve in third place at the first corner and she soon took the lead.  She ran with confidence and intelligence, holding on to her lead for the rest of the race ensuring she had sufficient in the tank for a strong finish to hold off the opposition despite a strong challenge from Hannah Eadie (Blackpool Wyre and Fylde) down the final straight.  Eve finished the course 8 seconds ahead of her nearest rival! A convincing win for the new Lancashire Champion!
