Music

Music plays a vital role in the life of the school with the majority of pupils involved in music-making in one form or another.

Among the many music ensembles on offer, we are particularly proud of the school Concert Band, which undertakes regular overseas tours. In addition to the school Orchestra, there are separate string, brass and various woodwind ensembles.

Regular hymn practices help maintain a lively choral tradition and our enthusiastic Chapel Choir, numbering over 50 singers, leads the worship at Chapel every Sunday. Each Michaelmas term our inter-house Singing & Speaking competition is held, in which the whole senior school takes part. The standard is very high and preparation always taken very seriously! For the parents there is also the opportunity to take part in our Choral Society which presents one concert each year.

outsideclass_musicA dedicated team of highly experienced visiting music teachers deliver individual instrumental and vocal lessons to pupils throughout the school. There are numerous opportunities for pupils to perform ranging from small informal recitals to high-profile whole school concerts. Our own Young Musician of the Year competition allows all pupils the opportunity to perform in public. Each year a number of concerts are given outside of school, such as in Grassington Festival, and we also perform regularly in the Chapel, which is a particularly stunning venue.

We currently have a number of Rock Bands which practise regularly, receive expert tuition and perform at our annual Rock Concert, as well as at many other events both in and out of school.

Our Concert Series brings leading artists from the world of Jazz and Classical music into the school and allows pupils to experience high quality workshops and concerts on their doorstep.
