School walkers complete bi-annual Gigg to Gigg

Gigg to Gigg 2017 1

27 Giggleswick School pupils, five parents and three members of staff have completed the Gigg to Gigg Three Peaks Challenge, raising money for charity.

The thirty-six mile walk which started and ended at Giggleswick School and included the Yorkshire Three Peaks of Ingleborough, Whernside and Peny-y-ghent, took the group 15 hours and 30 minutes to complete.

Each walker was asked to raise £100 which will mean a significant amount of money will be donated to the Anandamarga Orphanage in Mombasa, Kenya.

The group were supported by staff from across all areas of school throughout the day and were fed and watered at various checkpoints, one of which included, for one day only, the highest café in England on the top of Whernside which was run by teachers Dr Hucknall and Mr Huxtable.

Giggleswick School Headmaster Mark Turnbull said “I am full of admiration for all the students for taking on such a challenge. At the end of the day this is not about certificates and qualifications, it’s just about a willingness to seek to stretch and complete a genuinely tough 56 km walk. Full credit to all of them.”
