GCSE Results 2019

We are celebrating GCSE success with our students achieving more than double the national average of top three grades, despite concerns over the new tougher number grading system. Many students achieved over and above their predicted grades across a wide range of subjects.

Our musicians were also top performers with 75% achieving the higher grades 7-9 (A*A). Maddison Goode, winner of our Young Musician of the Year competition earlier this year, said “Being at Giggleswick has definitely helped me pursue my passion for music and it was the best experience winning Young Musician of the Year.”

Science has always been an area of particular strength at Giggleswick and this year brought more GCSE success with an impressive 81% achieving Grades 7-9 (A*A) in chemistry and a 100% pass rate across all sciences. There was also a clean sweep of 100% passes in art, biology, computing, Latin, music and further maths.

A level Results 2019

We have continued our track record of A level success with a 100% pass rate, 63% of grades at A*-B and A*A grades well above the national average. 85% of our Year 13 students received offers from a Russell Group university and these results have now secured their places at some of the foremost centres across the UK and overseas.

We had a strong showing in science subjects, with 100% A*-B grades in physics and students securing their places for medicine, biochemistry, veterinary science and dentistry. Giggleswick’s excellent reputation for performing arts was also reflected in some impressive results for both music and drama, with 100% A*-B grades in theatre studies and George Collins who has won a place at the prestigious Berklee College of Music in Boston, USA.

These results have secured first choice places for our leavers at top universities including Imperial College, St. Andrews, Durham, Nottingham and other leading Russell Group universities. Their wide ranging choice of degrees and careers include everything from engineering, architecture, biochemistry and medicine to philosophy, law, management, sport and film.

More and more students are choosing BTEC subject options as well as A levels and this year more than half of our BTEC students have achieved the top Double Distinction (D*D*) grade. They will be heading to universities including Durham, Oxford Brooks and Northumbria.
