In conditions that could only be described as filthy, Giggleswick's U13 runners once more returned from the Rawthey Run at Sedbergh with the U13 girls' trophy. The course at Sedbergh is a sound test of a cross country runner in the dry, but with the added challenge of wind, rain, hail and the buckets full of accompanying mud, all the performances were heroic.
Having been set the challenge of finishing the five scoring runners in the top ten, the girls dutifully ran to orders, coming home in the top nine places.
Olivia Shaw ran a confident and measured race, taking the lead at half distance and increasing her lead all the way to the finish. After being off school with a cold on Tuesday, Samantha Baker-Jones did brilliantly to run through to bronze medal position. Allana Jones led the remainder of the girls through the quagmire for sixth, being chased home by India Birley (7th) and Annabel Rood rounded out the scoring runners in 9th. Lily Cartwright-Douglas, who lost a shoe in the gloop ran brilliantly to finish in 29th position.
In the boys’ race, Will Farrar, now clearly over his sore foot led the boys home finishing in 21st place with Will Roberts (24th), Alden Everhart (29th), Ed Leech (30th) Joel Broadhurst (33rd) and Niven Smith rounding off the team in 37th.
