Sixth Form

The Sixth Form at Giggleswick is when the special quality of the relationships between staff and students really comes into its own.
Each Sixth Former has a personal tutor, chosen by them, to guide them through the two years leading, for most, to university or college. Classes are small, and teachers are on hand to provide extra help and advice where needed.

Our 150 Sixth Formers have their own Social Centre - the Dutton Centre (or DC) - in which they can relax and socialise together, away from the House. The DC is run by a Committee of U6 formers, with staff input, and is used for a variety of activities from Saturday night discos to debates, university and careers talks, or just relaxing in front of a DVD.

schoollife_sixthformWe encourage our Sixth Formers to develop leadership, teamwork and communication skills. Sports coaching, leadership within the CCF or Outdoor Pursuits programme, mentoring younger pupils, senior positions within their House, organising debates, showing visitors around the School there are many and varied opportunities that will stand them in good stead for applying for university and their chosen careers.

L6 Induction Week

Giggleswick is a popular choice for those looking to move schools in the Sixth Form and each year we welcome around 35 new students into the L6. We recognise that joining a new school in the Sixth Form can be a daunting prospect: Will I get on with the teachers? How will I know where to go? Will I make new friends? These are all questions that we answer during our L6 Induction Week, held in the last week of the Summer Term.

Almost all new L6 formers, whether they have been at Giggleswick for years or joining us in the Sixth Form, participate in our Induction Week. The aim of the week is to introduce pupils to their new teachers, to sample Sixth Form teaching, and to get to know each other through a series of fun and action-packed days of challenges and activities, in and out of School. Each year, new L6 formers comment on how much Induction Week has helped them integrate into Giggleswick and how at home they feel on the first day of the new term.
