English language teaching

The course provides 18 hours of intensive English lessons each week, provided in small classes by the school's own highly experienced EAL teaching staff. We also provide educational and cultural workshops in English to fully immerse students in English life, education and culture from the day they arrive.

Students enjoy two and a half hours of the highest quality English language teaching every morning, which is tailored to suit the level and ability of each child. Our teachers are fully qualified to teach English as a Foreign Language (EAL) and they use different teaching styles to make the lessons interesting, fun and maximise the learning experience for every child. There is a maximum of ten students per class and our personal style of teaching is designed to build confidence and help students to improve their speaking, reading and writing.

Practice with English students

The school’s proud tradition of summer sports and creative arts courses for British students provides the unique opportunity to mix and fully immerse our international students with British students during the afternoon and evening. Following on from their English language tuition in the mornings, our international students can join our British students for a range of activities and then enjoy social time together in the evening. This proves to be the perfect catalyst to fuel further progress with their English with the additional benefit of enjoying a genuine taste of life at one of the top British boarding school's in the UK.

Reports, certificates & awards

All students take a thorough placement test on arrival and will be placed in a class with other boys and girls of a similar ability. Progress reports are completed and sent to parents each week. At the end of the programme, every student takes a final assessment and receives a full academic report with a certificate and awards to recognise their achievements.

Educational workshops

After a morning of English lessons our junior students finish for lunch whilst our senior students choose an additional one hour educational or cultural workshop. For students who may be interested in studying in the UK longer term, we provide workshops on English study techniques, Cambridge examinations, and preparing for GCSE and A-level study. Other cultural workshops have included art, business, social media, crime, drama, history, journalism and photography. These workshops continue English language progression but in a more relaxed and practical setting with different students and friends.
