Welcome Camp

The School’s Welcome Camp is designed for all our overseas students and is scheduled immediately ahead of the new academic year. Our aim is to give students arriving at Giggleswick, either for the first time or after a long summer break, a chance to settle in, make or catch up with friends, and prepare for school life. The camp has proven to be a great opportunity to ensure a seamless transition into the new term and the students’ journey at Giggleswick.

What to expect

Students attending the Welcome Camp will have full and exclusive use of the school's facilities and 215-acre campus, which is a great way to get to know, or re-familiarise, with the environment before school starts. A fun packed and engaging itinerary of activities will enable students to get a head start with written and spoken English language skills as well as make friends with students in a similar situation.

Our team of welcoming staff are on hand to support and help students prepare throughout the week. There will be activities around the school site to ensure students have a good knowledge of how to find the right classroom and building once lessons commence.

Staff will also help students ensure their device for learning is set up and ready for classes, as well as guide students through the digital learning platform navigation and protocols.

There will be an opportunity to ensure all uniform, sports kit and required equipment is ready and organized, with the added benefit of being able to be fitted in person and purchase any last minute or forgotten items.

English language support

All students will have access to a bespoke programme of English Language support each morning. EAL sessions are provided by our own highly experienced teaching staff who have years of experience in teaching English as a foreign language.

Programme of activities

The Welcome Camp gives students the opportunity to take part in an extensive range of activities and have full use of our outstanding campus facilities, including sports courts, fitness centre, swimming pool, climbing wall, dance studio, and state-of-the-art theatre. Students will be provided with a programme of optional activities ranging from sports, outdoor pursuits, and creative arts. Trips and excursions may also be an option.

Accommodation

Students will spend the camp together in one of our seven boarding houses, before moving to their allocated boarding house at the start of term. This provides students with the chance to socialise, get to know each other, and familiarise themselves with the school's boarding routines. An itinerary of evening entertainment and activities is also provided throughout the camp.

“I was very warmly welcomed to the Welcome Camp. We had 10 days when we were shown how everything works in school. Setting up our laptops and school profiles was really helpful. We got to know each other and started speaking English. This meant we were ready and got straight into everything when the year started! I found it so easy to settle in because we were treated like everybody else and that was good.”
