Our Key Stage 1 pupils joined the local celebrations for Settle–Carlisle Railway Day, marking 150 years of one of the UK’s most iconic railway lines.

To mark the occasion, pupils dressed in Victorian costume and took part in a range of activities celebrating the history and heritage of the railway. A highlight of the day was the opportunity to step inside a restored signal box, giving pupils an insight into how the line would once have been operated.

Running through some of the country’s most breathtaking scenery, the Settle–Carlisle line is renowned worldwide for its beauty and engineering heritage. Voted the second most scenic railway in the world last year, it provided a fitting backdrop for this special anniversary celebration.

The day offered pupils a memorable and engaging way to connect with local history and appreciate the enduring legacy of this remarkable railway.
