GCSE Success Opens the Door to Exciting Next Steps at Giggleswick 

Year 11 pupils at Giggleswick School are celebrating a strong set of GCSE results today, with 92% of grades awarded at grades 4–9, an increase on last year. 

Particularly impressive results were achieved across some of the subjects taken by the largest numbers of pupils. History led the way with 57% of grades awarded at 7–9, alongside strong performances in Geography (48%), Physics (45%) and English (43%). Together, these results demonstrate high levels of attainment across subjects with broad participation from the year group.

Beyond the larger subject cohorts, particularly strong results were also achieved in Religious Studies (67%), Further Maths (60%) and German (57%). While these subjects were taken by smaller groups of pupils, the high proportion of top grades represents an impressive level of attainment and further demonstrates the breadth of academic strength across the year group. 

There was also outstanding success in the Higher Project Qualification (HPQ), with 100% of pupils achieving an A*. The HPQ is one of the opportunities available to Giggleswick’s Academic Scholars, giving pupils the chance to explore a subject of particular interest in greater depth and develop the independent research and project-management skills that will support them as they move into Sixth Form. 

For many pupils, today marks the culmination of several years of hard work and the beginning of an exciting new chapter. 

Libby achieved an outstanding set of results, with all 12 of her GCSE grades at 8 or 9, including six grade 9s, alongside an A* in her Higher Project Qualification. 

“I’m really proud to have achieved a Grade 9 in English. I thought I was going to get a 7, so I was really surprised. Throughout my time at Giggleswick, I’ve felt supported every step of the way. Whether it was extra sessions in Maths, help preparing for language speaking tests or support with my English coursework, my teachers were always there when I needed them. I never felt alone in my journey; there was always someone I could go to for help. I’m now really looking forward to stepping up to Sixth Form, studying History, Maths and Physics, and having the opportunity to focus on the subjects I really enjoy.” 

Angus also celebrated an excellent set of results, achieving five grades at 7–9, including a grade 9 and two grade 8s, with every one of his GCSE results at grade 6 or above. 

“I’m really proud that I achieved good grades in languages and Geography, as they are subjects I really enjoyed and wanted to do well in. My teachers really helped me with the subjects I found most difficult and made me start to enjoy them, even when I was struggling. They are always available to help and will always try their best. 

“I’m excited to come back into Sixth Form, where there will be more freedom and I’ll be able to focus on the subjects I really enjoy – French, Geography and Economics.”

“I am incredibly proud of this year group and delighted to see many of our pupils celebrating their achievements today. GCSE results are an important milestone, but they are just one part of a much bigger journey. What matters most is that each pupil can look back and know they have worked hard, challenged themselves and made the most of the opportunities available to them at Giggleswick. 

“This is a year group with a huge range of talents and strengths, and it is particularly pleasing to see such strong results across so many different subjects. We are looking forward to seeing them take their next steps with confidence and ambition.”

“GCSE results can feel like a defining moment, but they are really the beginning of the next stage of a young person’s journey. At Giggleswick, we encourage pupils to look beyond individual grades and think carefully about the subjects, opportunities and experiences that will allow them to thrive. 

“We are incredibly proud of the range of achievements within this year group, and we will continue to work closely with each pupil to make sure their Sixth Form choices reflect their individual strengths, interests and aspirations. There is no single route to success, and our role is to help every young person find the pathway that is right for them.” 

For those pupils continuing their education at Giggleswick, the Sixth Form offers a supportive, close-knit community alongside personalised academic and careers guidance. Pupils can choose from a broad range of A Level and BTEC pathways, with individual support to help them progress towards university, degree apprenticeships and a wide range of future careers.
