Pupils from Giggleswick delivered outstanding performances at the English Schools' Athletic Association Cross Country Championships on Saturday, competing against the best young runners from across the country.

Mia produced a superb run to win the Junior Girls race at Sefton Park, securing the English Schools’ title after an exceptional performance. Following her win, Mia will now make her England Schools debut this weekend at the SIAB Cross Country International & British Masters Championships 2026 in Bangor, where she will compete for the English Schools team against athletes from Scotland, Ireland and Wales.

Fellow Giggleswick athlete Jack  also impressed with a remarkable run in the Senior Boys race, finishing second overall in a fiercely competitive field. Jack set a strong early pace and led much of the race, demonstrating tremendous determination and control. In a dramatic finish, he was narrowly pipped to the post in the final stretch, crossing the line just four seconds behind the winner.

Giggleswick was also represented in the Inter-Girls race by pupil Camilla, who delivered a strong performance to finish 110th overall and as the third North Yorkshire runner home in her race.

Ed Buck, Director of Sport at Giggleswick School, praised the athletes for their performances:

“We are incredibly proud of our pupils for their fantastic achievements. Their determination and resilience have been evident throughout the season, and it is wonderful to see their hard work paying off on the national stage. To win the English Schools’ Championships and go on to represent England is an exceptional accomplishment for Mia.”

Mr Buck also paid tribute to those supporting the pupils’ development:

“A huge thank you must also go to Giggleswick School’s Endurance Running Coach, Alastair Scholey, whose guidance and support have played a significant role in their success.”

These performances mark a proud moment for the school and highlight the strength of athletics at Giggleswick, with the whole community wishing Mia the very best as she prepares to represent England this weekend.
