Key Stage 2
Giggleswick’s broad curriculum takes full advantage of the range of expertise of our staff and the structure of the school day. All subjects are taught by specialists to allow pupils to benefit from their extensive subject knowledge. Curriculum overviews are produced at the start of each term to inform parents of subject content in advance and support home learning.
From Year 3 pupil’s benefit from an extended day with academic lessons finishing at 4.15pm, followed by an prep period running until 5.15pm which includes time to complete extension work, independent research, and other activities to ensure time out of school can be free from work. We also use this time for learning support interventions and musical ensembles. The importance of developing numeracy and literacy skills is high – and pupils have 5 hours a week dedicated to these subjects. Added to this is a weekly input on handwriting and spelling sessions three times a week in small groups, allowing us to deliver appropriately challenging material to ensure that they make outstanding progress. The school is also developing cross-curriculum links to enhance core skills of reading, writing and numeracy.
