Every day at Giggleswick is busy and filled with exciting activities and opportunities. Our extended day allows us to offer a broad curriculum including arts and crafts, performing arts, specialist sports coaching and outdoor pursuits. It also gives us time to take learning beyond the classroom door with an extensive enrichment programme including regular trips and visits, themed activity and charity days, sports fixtures, music performances and many clubs and activities to take part in every week.
The school day
The School week at the Junior School runs from Monday to Friday. Saturday School is for senior school pupils only, starting in Year 7. For junior full boarders (Year 6) there is a regular weekend activity programme.
Day pupils can be dropped off at School from 8.00am with school starting at 8.20am. School finishes at 3.30 pm for Reception, Years 1 and 2, and at 5.15pm for Years 3 to 6.
A typical day begins with an assembly in our library, including a visit from our school chaplain each Monday, and our Achievers’ Assembly on a Friday. Lessons begin at 8.40am with our Literacy and Numeracy hours largely operating throughout the school. Our break-time is at 10.40am where pupils can play in our safe grounds, and we provide a healthy snack to keep them going. We have one lesson after break, before a lunch hour at the dining hall.
The afternoon is focused on foundation subjects, such as Art, Performing Arts, Humanities and Languages, as well as Science. Key Stage 1 pupils have 2 lessons, before a final story-time at 3.15pm-3.30pm (we then offer an optional Tea Club as our after school provision until 5.30pm which includes a hot meal in our dining hall).
Key Stage 2 pupils have 3 lessons before our prep period, and collection is at 5.15pm from form rooms. Many children choose to stay on to have tea at 5.30-6.00pm, with those using the buses leaving school at 6.15pm.
