Our boarders come from a rich mix of regions and backgrounds. We welcome pupils from across the country and abroad. Examples of where our current UK boarders come from are Leeds, York, Ilkley, Harrogate, Clitheroe, London, Manchester, Cheshire and Isle of Man. Internationally, our community includes students from China, Germany, Spain, France, and many other countries. This diversity makes boarding a truly global experience at Giggleswick.

Three-night or five-night flexi boarding is perfect for families who want to dip their toes into boarding life without full boarding. It allows pupils to enjoy our evening programme, build strong friendships, and complete homework before heading home for the weekend.

For parents, it offers peace of mind during the week and quality time at weekends. Many pupils who start as flexi boarders choose to move to full boarding as they grow more confident and want to spend more time on campus. By Sixth Form, over 80% of our pupils board in some capacity - most as full boarders - because it gives them space to focus and flourish.

We understand that some families may need boarding from a young age, especially if their work involves regular travel or relocation. Boarding is available for girls and boys from Year 3 in our warm and welcoming Junior Boarding House, Catteral.

Absolutely. At Giggleswick, we believe that choosing a school is a decision for the whole family. We encourage parents to attend concerts, sports fixtures, and performances at the Richard Whiteley Theatre. Each House is led by a resident Housemaster or Housemistress, who lives onsite and is accessible 24/7. They’re supported by a dedicated Matron and at least one Resident Tutor.

Teaching staff also serve as House Tutors, building strong relationships with pupils across school, and supporting evening routines. All of the contact details you need are in your child's House Handbook. A strong, structured pastoral reporting system helps staff across the school understand how best to support every child. We also have a wonderful Wellbeing Centre team on site. 

We help boarders settle in and make friends by providing strong pastoral support from day one. The Housemaster or Housemistress plays a key role in this, acting as the main point of contact for each pupil and their family. They ensure new boarders feel welcome and supported, offering regular updates and being available for any questions. Working closely with the wider school team, they help create a friendly, inclusive environment where pupils can build friendships and adjust socially and academically.

All of our international boarders join the compulsory Welcome Camp programme which runs immediately before the start of term. It’s a chance to meet our Head of International Pupils and House staff, settle into rooms, buy uniform, and say goodbyes in a calm and supportive environment. Our Head of International Pupils also runs regular cultural events and keeps in close contact with families throughout the year. 

Homesickness is perfectly normal-and we’re here for them every step of the way. Whether it’s a chat over tea, some fresh air in the Dales, or just a familiar voice on the phone, we find the right balance of comfort and encouragement. Our school nurse lives onsite and is always on hand for any medical needs. Above all, we take time to care and ensure pupils feel at home.

Our structured co-curricular programme, for all pupils, is packed with clubs, sports, and creative opportunities. On top of this, Houses run their own activities throughout the year. A highlight is the annual House Singing and Speaking competition, where each House prepares a themed performance for an evening of creativity, friendly rivalry and teamwork. Whether it’s making pancakes, training for Scarrig, or celebrating international festivals, there’s always something going on in-house. In fact many of our day pupils opt for flexi boarding so they don't miss out on the fun!

We believe communication is key. All parents and guardians receive regular updates via our weekly InTouch newsletter, alongside access to the Parent Portal for timetables, reports and notices. Termly academic reports offer insight into your child’s progress, and teaching and boarding staff are always happy to talk if you have any concerns or questions, refer to your child's House Handbook for who's who and contact details.
