Houses
We have five Houses, including a Junior House (Catteral) for boys and girls in Years 4 to 8, two girls' Houses (Carr and Style) and two senior boys' Houses (Nowell-Morrison and Paley-Shute). Each House has a well-balanced mixture of day, flexi and full boarders. Day pupils have their own desk and work space in the House alongside the boarders.

Mrs Emily Thompson lives in Music Cottages with her husband Mike and sons Ruari and Conor. She is a former Carr girl herself and a Design and Technology teacher who loves to be creative and travel with her family in the holidays.
We are committed to developing a sense of independence, mutual trust, responsibility and pride within you, the House and the School.

About Carr House
Carr is one of two girls boarding Houses for pupils in Y9 to U6. Carr is unique amongst the boarding Houses as it comprises five buildings: the Green, the Annexe, Brookside, The Cottage and Music Cottages. It is named after James Carr, the founder of the School, and became a girls’ house in the 1980s.
Carr House has a proud tradition of success in the Singing and Speaking Competition, it’s become something of a running joke around school!

Style House is currently led by Mr Matt Jones. Mr Karl Eden has been appointed Housemaster Elect and will succeed Mr Jones as Housemaster in January 2027.

Mr Matt Jones enjoys walking in the hills, listening to jazz and settling down with a good book. His love of the outdoors and natural curiosity are reflected in the warm and encouraging environment he creates for the girls in Style.

Mr Karl Eden is closely involved in the wider life of the School, including performances, school AV and Gigg Sounds, the School’s audio media and podcasting CASE activity. He lives on campus with his wife, Marie, and their children, Pearl and Ralph.
A boarding house should be a place where every pupil feels known, valued and supported.

About Style House
Style is one of two girls’ boarding Houses for pupils in Y9 to U6. The House is named after the eminent Headmaster George Style and provides a welcoming home for pupils throughout their senior years at Giggleswick.
At the heart of Style is a close-knit community where pupils are encouraged to support one another, build lasting friendships and play an active part in House life. The House aims to provide a stimulating, safe and homely environment in which pupils can develop confidence, independence and a strong sense of belonging.

Mr Pete Keron
Housemaster, Nowell-Morrison House
Mr Keron has a lifelong passion for adventure and the outdoors. He has represented Great Britain five times at the Kayaking World Championships and is a keen climber, fell runner and mountain biker. His adventurous spirit and experience help inspire confidence, resilience and a willingness to embrace new challenges in the boys of Nowell-Morrison.
I believe in creating a warm and welcoming home from home where every boy feels safe, valued and able to be himself.

About Nowell-Morrison House
Nowell-Morrison is one of two boys’ boarding Houses for pupils in Y9 to U6. Its name reflects two important figures in Giggleswick’s history: John Nowell, Vicar of Giggleswick from 1548 to 1558, who petitioned Edward VI to grant the School its charter in 1553, and Walter Morrison, the philanthropist who provided the funds for the building of the School Chapel.
Situated at the heart of the School, Nowell-Morrison brings together two proud House traditions in an exciting new chapter, building a community founded on friendship, mutual respect and participation.

Mr Miles Kinge
Housemaster, Paley-Shute House
Mr Miles Kinge joined Giggleswick in 2023, having grown up in the boarding school environment himself. Away from teaching English and House life, he is involved in rugby, hockey and cricket, sings in the School choir and is perhaps best known to pupils for playing the bagpipes at School events.
In Paley-Shute, alongside having tremendous fun, we seek to develop young men whose achievements are underpinned by strength of character, quiet confidence and a willingness to put the needs of others before their own.

About Paley-Shute House
Paley-Shute is one of two boys’ boarding Houses for pupils in Y9 to U6. The House takes its name from two important figures in Giggleswick’s history: William Paley, Headmaster of the School for 54 years until his death in 1799, and Josiah Shute, a local priest and landowner whose grants of land and scholarships helped secure the School’s future in the 17th century.
Paley-Shute brings together two proud House traditions, creating a community where character, fellowship and participation are valued and every boy is encouraged to make the most of his time at Giggleswick.

A former Giggleswick pupil herself, Mrs McGoldrick has a strong connection to the School and knows what makes it such a special place. A passionate painter, she brings her creativity and warmth to Catteral, creating a welcoming home where every child feels known, supported and confident.
Catteral is a busy, happy house where no two days are quite the same. We want children to have fun, try new things, look after one another and, most importantly, feel completely at home.

About Catteral House
Catteral is the junior boarding house for boys and girls in Years 4 to 8. The House shares the pastoral and academic ethos of the wider School while providing the additional structure, activities and supervision younger pupils need.
Pupils belong to one of three tutor groups – Bowland, Craven and Malham – with daily guidance from their tutors. New pupils are also supported by a Year 8 mentor, helping them settle in, make friends and quickly feel at home.
