Giggleswick Pupils Tackle Three Yorkshire Peaks for Charity

In the early hours of Sunday, 29 pupils and 5 staff members from Giggleswick School embarked on a challenging journey to circumnavigate the three Yorkshire peaks. The 35-mile route, starting and finishing at their school, includes over 6000 feet of ascent. This biannual event, held to raise funds for charity, is supporting the Solomon Project this year, which aids children in Kenya's poorest areas. So far, the effort has raised over £1700, with hopes to reach £2000 before donations close.

The tradition dates back to 1887, when three Giggleswick schoolmasters first recorded a circumnavigation of the three peaks. Over the decades, the challenge has evolved, with modifications to routes and formats. It has been run, walked, done clockwise and anticlockwise. In one adventurous year, Fountains Fell was added to the route, and there are tales of the challenge being completed in the dark. Despite these variations, the core spirit remains: starting and finishing at Giggleswick, embracing the beauty of their surroundings, and stepping out of their back door into an inspiring adventure.
