Houston Learning Hub open
Monday 12 Jun 2017
The new Houston Learning Hub was officially opened on Speech Day by Mrs Alison Houston, wife of the late David Houston, OG (Shute, 1960) - a major benefactor of the School.
This exciting new dedicated space next to the Sharpe Library has been designed specifically for collaborative learning using technology which was inspired by the headquarters of tech giants Google and Microsoft. It provides an important opportunity for pupils to collaborate, communicate, think critically and exercise creativity, and is a protoype of how further learning spaces at Giggleswick could be developed in the future.
The Hub includes two large screens that will allow tablets and laptops to wirelessly display ideas from groups or individuals working together. Fun and exciting furniture colours have been chosen to provide a fun and uplifting environment, reflecting the vibrancy and energy of working together on a project, assignment or in a quiz or competition.
At the launch on Speech Day, pupils working as two teams demonstrated the potential of the room to Mrs Houston using an online quiz, with questions and results being displayed on the screens.
Mr Andrew, Director of Digital Strategy said, ‘Technology can be an incredibly powerful tool to enhance teaching and learning in a collaborative environment and encourages our pupils to become responsible digital citizens. We are extremely grateful for the legacy that David Houston left to the school, part of which has made the development of this area possible’.
