Junior Sports Day 2018

Friday 29 Jun 2018

Blessed with blue skies, sunshine and warm conditions, this year’s Sports Day brought out the crowds and was one to remember.

Everyone got into the spirit of the day, putting in lots of effort and showcasing all the technical skills they have been learning during the term. The afternoon started with the whole House relay for pupils from Years 1 to 6 followed by the individual track and field events with some impressive individual performances throughout the afternoon.

George Battersby and Georgia Twist stole the show at Y1-2 level and the year group as a whole put together a very entertaining show in the relay race at the end of the afternoon. In the U9s Henry Thornton dominated the sprints, while Max Gilchrist threw the ball well. The girls were also very impressive with Willa Bailey running strongly in the 600m and Elodie Martin showed power and speed in both sprints and in setting a new record in the Long Jump. In the U11 section Archie Clark dominated his events but Charlie Yule, Toby Green and Stanley Brown all had victories. The girls’ events were fiercely contested and with notable performances from Martha Jones and Tegan-Leigh Tudor who won two events each.

After the athletics, everyone was rewarded with a fabulous afternoon tea party in the Pavilion, thanks to the Giggleswick School Parent Association (GSPA) - a super way to round off the day. Mr Mundell and Mr Cook closed-up with presentation of prizes to those who won events and to the best boy and girl athlete of the day: Archie Clark winner of the Victor Ludorum and Martha Jones winner of the Victrix Ludorum. The overall House result was a resounding victory for Ingleborough.
