Tatler loves our ‘down to earth’ feel

Thursday 12 Sep 2019

We are thrilled to be included in the Tatler Schools Guide again this year. Only the country's finest independent schools make it into the guide and it is renowned for giving the 'inside track' on schools, with a team who inspect the schools inside out with a visit and interviews with the head, parents and pupils.

Here's what Tatler said about Giggleswick:

“Whether it’s the ‘down to earth feel of the place’, its bucolic village setting with sweeping views over the Yorkshire Dales, or the 80 extra activities on offer every week, it doesn’t take long to fall in love with Giggleswick. Both parents and students hold authoritative yet approachable Head Mark Turnbull in high esteem: he has dedicated himself to taking academic results to the next level (this non-selective school is already punching well above its weight).

There’s something for everyone in the sixth form with students given the choice between the A level programme (alongside an EPQ or the school’s academic enrichment programme known as the Super-curriculum) and the BTEC programme, and the results speak for themselves.

Giggleswick excels in the arts: the recent production of Les Miserables gave the West End show a run for its money while the art and DT departments prepare students for impressive careers in architecture and design.

Set on the edge of a national park, Giggleswick offers climbing and caving, and the school takes part in the annual Three Peaks Challenge. A real community feel pervades the school with 38% day students and 19% international, including lots of Forces families.

Everyone adores the food and there’s always ‘more than enough for hungry teenagers”.
