Can students from other schools join the Sixth Form?
Yes. Giggleswick School warmly welcomes external applicants into the Sixth Form, and applications are open at all entry points across the school.
What qualifications can I study in the Sixth Form?
Students take three A Levels plus an Extended Project Qualification (EPQ) or Gold Arts Award — or a fourth A Level (usually Further Maths) in place of the EPQ. BTEC pathways are also offered. The school supports degree apprenticeship routes with major employers including Coca-Cola, Amazon and BAE Systems.
What UCAS and university application support is available?
Higher education and UCAS support is led by the Head of Sixth Form, Anne Coward, who sits on the UCAS Advisory Board. Every student has a personal sixth form tutor who meets them weekly, guides them through UCAS using Unifrog and the UCAS hub, and writes their reference. Support covers personal statements, course choice and tailored pathway advice across universities (UK and international), conservatoires, arts foundation courses, degree apprenticeships and gap years.
What grades do I need to join the Sixth Form?
The standard entry requirement is a minimum Level 6 average at GCSE/iGCSE. Some subjects (such as Science and Maths) set a specific minimum, shown under the subject in the Sixth Form Curriculum. For BTEC pathways, a combination of a BTEC Level 3 Diploma plus an A Level is offered, requiring a minimum of four Level 5 grades at GCSE. International students, or those who have not taken GCSEs, receive offers based on school reports, English and Maths tests, and an interview in person or online.
Are there scholarships for Sixth Form entry?
Yes. Scholarships are available at Sixth Form entry for Academic Excellence, All-Round Ability, Drama, Music, Sport, Art, Choral, and Design.
