Welcome from the Head

Dear Future Sixth Former,
You’re standing at the edge of something new, a space between who you’ve been and who you’re about to become. And I want you to know: this is your time. Your time to explore, to question, to discover what truly matters to you, and to realise that there’s no one right way to get there.
One of the greatest joys in my role is watching young people like you grow into yourselves. In just two years, we see pupils who arrived unsure and quiet, leave with confidence, direction, and a strong sense of who they are. That transformation doesn’t happen overnight, and it doesn’t need to. What matters is that we give you the time, the space, and the support to grow at your own pace.
Sixth Form isn’t just about getting grades (although we’ll help you do that too), it’s about becoming yourself. It’s about trying new things, asking questions, getting things wrong, and learning how to bounce back. And most importantly, it’s about realising that your future can take many forms - university, a degree apprenticeship, a gap year, or even something you haven’t thought of yet.
The truth is, most people your age don’t have everything figured out, and you don’t need to either. What you do need is a place where you feel supported, safe to explore your ideas, and encouraged to be brave. That’s what we aim to offer you here
In our Sixth Form, we get to know you. Not just your grades, but your interests, your quirks, your goals, even the ones you’re not ready to say out loud yet. Through the highs and the lows, we’ll be a constant presence, in the background when you need space, and right by your side when it matters most.
So here’s my advice as you begin this next chapter:
Try something you’ve never tried before. Say yes to an opportunity that makes you slightly nervous. Don’t follow the crowd, follow your curiosity. Have the courage to step out of your comfort zone. And if things don’t go to plan, that’s not failure, it’s learning. And our school is a safe, compassionate space to fall, get back up, and keep going.
You’re allowed to take your time. Growth doesn’t follow a straight line, and you don’t have to rush to figure everything out. What matters is that you stay curious, open, committed, and willing to explore, and we’ll be here to support you every step of the way.
With warmth and belief in all that you will become,
Mrs Anne Coward
Head of Sixth Form
