We welcome international pupils (aged 8 to 18), from across the world to Giggleswick, including expatriate and Forces families. We are proud of the diversity of our students and inclusive culture, maintaining a good balance of British and international students in each class and boarding house.
We currently have around 65 international students in school from 16 different countries, giving all our pupils the opportunity to broaden their horizons and learn about other cultures and languages. Approximately 80% of our Senior School pupils are British and 20% from overseas, maintaining an excellent balance of British and international students.
With 500 years of heritage, a strong British boarding ethos and a beautiful, peaceful, typically English countryside location, we are a popular choice for international students. 60% of our pupils board at the school, rising to 75% in the Sixth Form. There is a full school day on Saturdays for everyone, including day pupils, which means our international students always have plenty of friends around them, even at weekends. A structured programme of activities is also in place for boarders on Sundays, including trips and visits for children to explore more of British culture.
All international pupils must have an acceptable level of English, as they will largely learn alongside our English-speaking pupils. Applicants must complete an English test before an offer can be made, to assess their level of English. Our English as a Foreign Language (EAL) teachers provide expert support for all our international pupils to ensure they can access all areas of the school curriculum.
Most enquiries from international pupils come to us through our network of international agents, although we welcome direct enquiries as well. Every year we make visits to selected countries and regions to meet our agents and prospective families in country. We also encourage international families to visit the school at any time throughout the year.
