Chemists analyse Aspirin at Lancaster University
Ben Harris

Our Sixth Form Chemists travelled to the Chemistry Department at Lancaster University to carry out experiments, testing, isolating and then analysing Aspirin. Taking advantage of using some of the newest and most up to date teaching laboratories in the country, our Chemists had an opportunity to use equipment and methods that they had not previously used but which will be used during their second year of A level or as part of degree level Chemistry.

The students had a challenging but enjoyable day – full of good Chemistry and with plenty to think about and discuss later. The visit made several of the group think more seriously about the possibility of studying Chemistry or a Chemistry-related subject at degree level and provided all students with useful ideas for their UCAS personal statements.
