Female Mathematicians attend Florence Nightingale Day
Ben Harris

Our Year 12 female Mathematicians recently attended one of Lancaster University’s Florence Nightingale Days which promoted Mathematics and Statistics and the participation of women in those subjects.

The event showcased successful women in Mathematics at various stages of their careers, displayed information about the broad range of possibilities offered by a degree in Mathematics or Statistics, stimulated informal discussion between pupils and gave them an opportunity to work on some Mathematic problems, all within a university setting.

While Florence Nightingale is well-known for her medical work as a nurse, she was also a pioneer in statistics, especially in the use of visualisation of statistical data.
