Giggleswick appoints new Headmaster
Ben Harris

A message from the Chairman of Governors, Alex Thursby:

In April I announced that Mark Turnbull has been appointed Headmaster of Kent College, Canterbury and will step down at Christmas after seven outstanding years of leadership at the School. We had a strong field of candidates to be the next Head of Giggleswick and this reflects well on Mark’s achievements at the School and the high standing of Giggleswick.

I am delighted to announce that Sam Hart has been appointed by the Governors to be the next Headmaster of Giggleswick School. Sam comes to us from Winchester College where he is a housemaster, Head of the CCF and was previously Head of Sport as well as being a Teacher of Physics. Sam has previously had a successful career in the Army Air Corps where he flew Lynx helicopters and was awarded the NATO Meritorious Service Medal for outstanding leadership. Sam is married to Lucy and has two young children. Sam has a first-class degree in Engineering from the University of Edinburgh.

The Governors selected Sam for his qualities as a leader, his dedication to education and his exceptionally broad talents. He is highly intelligent, pragmatic, and energetic, as well as caring deeply for those he leads. Sam brings strong experience of boarding as well as a highly successful track record from his current school. We are delighted to have made such a strong appointment to be the next Head of Giggleswick School.

On his appointment Sam commented:

“I am honoured to have been appointed as the Head of Giggleswick. During my recent visits, I was greatly impressed by the ethos of the School and the pupils I met. I am looking forward to meeting everyone, and to finding out much more about the full breadth of learning at Giggleswick and what it offers to young people.”

Sam and Lucy will move to Giggleswick at Christmas 2021 but will make visits to Yorkshire to prepare for their new lives in Giggleswick.

Yours sincerely

Alex V Thursby
