Giggleswick presented with school mental health award

We are delighted to announce that we have been awarded the Carnegie Centre of Excellence for Mental Health in Schools ‘Boarding Mental Health Award’ Silver Status.

The award, presented by Leeds Beckett University, allows boarding schools to make mental health and wellbeing a strategic priority for school development. Using a development framework, we evaluated current mental health practices, identified gaps, developed, and strengthened these and worked towards building an emotionally healthy boarding community for all.

As well as now being recognised as a thought leader in Boarding School Mental Health and Wellbeing, we now have the opportunity to showcase our practices with other schools, engaging in research and supporting the building of a professional community.

Deputy Head and Safeguarding Lead, Anthony Simpson, commented: “We applied for this award as we were confident that we had excellent pastoral care and structures in place to support the Giggleswick community. However, we were also conscious that there is always room for improvement, and this process gave us the opportunity to self-reflect, consult with the students and staff, and target key areas to enhance our provision. We are now in a stronger place as a result, and we have clear action points going forward to ensure that Giggleswick continues to be a safe, supportive and friendly environment for everyone.”
