Map skills in action to navigate Giggleswick
Ben Harris

The term began for our Year 5 pupils by learning about compass points in their humanities lesson. On a day dedicated to map skills. the children were given the opportunity to transfer the skills they had learned in the classroom to some practical outdoor experience. Everyone needed to hone their navigational skills by using a map and compass to navigate from point to point and consider which directions they needed to go in order to complete the task. The day ended with some fun orientation games which required them to use a route card to find different points on the map of our school campus.
