Reception & Key Stage 1 explore Bolton Castle
Ben Harris

To kick start their topic of 'Houses and Homes, Castles and Caves' Reception and Year 1 were joined by Year 2 for an action-packed and fact-filled trip to Bolton Castle.

'Master Dave' and his 'Good Wife Sue' led pupils on a tour of the castle, taking in sights such as the medieval kitchen, the scullery, the great bed chamber and even the dungeons.

The morning began with a spot of traditional breakfast; boiled eggs, bread, cheese and an oat biscuit, washed down with some 'ale'.

During the day the children tried their hand at calligraphy, made plague bags filled with lavender and mint, rehearsed a medieval dance and learned all about life of children during Lord Scrope's reign.

The highlight of the day for many was 'knight training' where they learned archery skills, how to correctly hold spears and swords, and march like they were defending the castle.

A thoroughly great time was had by all, the children behaved impeccably and represented our school brilliantly.
