Speed and strength is showcased at Scarret
Ben Harris

We had a beautiful autumnal afternoon for this year’s Scarret, the inter-house cross country championships for the junior school. This is the first in a popular series of House competitions that are scheduled though the year.

The U9 (Y3-4) race was run first over the 1200m course. Robert Shuttleworth ran away from the field in the boys event to win in 7 minutes 11 seconds and Boe Evans and Bram Scott Cass were 2nd and 3rd respectively. Emilia Routledge had a strong run to win the girls race with Eliza Mallinson 2nd and Rubyann Mitchell 3rd.

In the U11 races, the runners had a longer 1600m course and more elevation to negotiate. In the boys race, Rafferty Bannister was 2nd, hot on the heels of Mylan Baladi who claimed victory in 8 minutes 30 seconds, and James Galley was 3rd. Lucy Cowin had a very strong run to win the girls race in a very impressive time of 8 minutes 43 seconds. Mathilda Evans was runner up with Elodie Martin 3rd.

All pupils ran well and have gained in speed and strength with many improving their personal times in recent trials over the past six weeks.
